We at A River & Sound Review are proud to publish an online literary journal that features the best in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and humor.  We ask that you accept our invitation to submit your work. 

Our reading periods are open regularly from February 1 to May 31 and  August 1 to November 30.  (Manuscripts received outside these dates will not be read.) Simultaneous submissions are considered, as long as the editors at A River & Sound Review are notified immediately if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere first. Writers are limited to one submission per reading period.

Please send your submission via email to the appropriate editors listed below.  Response time ranges from one to four months, but we'll do our best to offer a prompt reply.  Only previously unpublished manuscripts will be considered. Literature in translation is welcome too.  We pay upon publication: $25 for poetry, $50 for prose.

Poetry

We consider submissions of up to three poems per entry.  Place all poetry manuscripts in the body of an email message, or attach it as a word document.  Please include your name and email address in the message along with secondary contact information (name, address, phone number, email).  In the Subject Line, place your first and last name and the words “Poetry Submission.”

Fiction

We consider submissions of short stories up to 6,000 words in length.  There are no limitations on form or subject matter.  Place the entire short story manuscript in the body of an email message, or attach it as a word document.  Please include your name and email address in the message along with a precise word count and contact information.  In the Subject Line, place your first and last name and the words “Fiction Submission.”

Nonfiction 

We consider submissions of creative nonfiction manuscripts--including memoirs, essays, and reviews--up to 4,000 words in length.  There are no limitations on form or subject matter.  Place the entire manuscript in the body of an email message, or attach it as a word document.  Please include your name and email address in the message along with a precise word count and contact information.  In the Subject Line, place your first and last name and the words “Nonfiction Submission.”

Humor 

We consider submissions of humor manuscripts of indeterminate genre up to 2,000 words in length.  There are no limitations on form or subject matter (other than the submission be funny).  Place entire manuscript in the body of an email message, or attach it as a word document. Please include your name and email address in the message along with a precise word count and secondary contact information.  In the Subject Line, place your first and last name and the words “Humor Submission.”

Literature in Translation 

We consider submissions of literature in translation manuscripts of any of the above genres from authors beyond the American borders. Place entire manuscript in the body of an email message, or attach it as a word document. Please include translator's name, email address, author's name, and language and country of origin in the message along with a precise word count and secondary contact information.  In the Subject Line, place your first and last name and the words “World Lit Submission.”

Podcast

We are still producing our live literary productions and releasing them as podcasts.  If you've ever been to one of our shows, or listened to it on podcast, you know it's a fresh and humor-filled presentation of a literary reading, one like you've never heard or seen before.  On average, we perform one show every 12 weeks.  If you'd like to book A River & Sound Review to perform in your community, simply send an email message to jaybates@riverandsoundreview.org.
